          Did you know?

1 in 10 (28 million) Americans has a hearing loss, with the number expected to nearly double by the year 2030.

1 in 1000 newborns is born profoundly deaf each year and 2-3 out of 1000 are born with partial hearing loss.

Among seniors, hearing loss is the 3rd most prevalent but treatable, disabling condition.

It takes the average adult 7 years from the time the hearing loss is identified to when they seek intervention.

Of the thousands of babies born each year with hearing loss, only about 50% exhibit a risk factor that would cause hearing loss.

When hearing loss is detected beyond the first few months of life, significant delays in speech and language may occur.

When a child is not identified and thus does not receive intervention at an early age, special education for a child with hearing loss can cost a school over $400,000.

The Goal of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program is:

to screen all newborns by one month of age, have diagnostic follow-up by 3 months and have appropriate intervention by 6 months of age.
